Dear Friends,

Thank you for taking the time to visit this page.  Now that you're here, I'm feeling a bit shy and tongue-tied (keyboard-tied?) regarding what to say about myself!  Simply put, I am a woman who loves to bake, eat, and ogle cakes.  I also happen to be a physician, thus the name of the blog, in case you were wondering.  I take care of children who are admitted into the hospital, so my job is rather different from what most people visualize when thinking of a pediatrician.

about me

Although it may be fairly obvious, I want to take a moment to emphasize that this blog is not for the purpose of giving medical advice.  Any medical terms or references here are meant to be playful or tongue-in-cheek, as this blog is only for the delicious purpose of celebrating all things cake.  But since I'm embarking on this journey to share my life with you, it seemed only right that I should mention what else I do with the vast majority of my time. ^_^

When I'm not busy frantically throwing flour all over my kitchen or dodging streams of pee from my little patients, I'm also a wife and mother.  Embarking on the journey of motherhood required me to step away from cake baking for a while, but I've never stopped dreaming of and drooling over cakes, even in the midst of those 3 a.m. newborn feedings.  I'm hoping that as the little ones get bigger, I might have a bit more time and energy to turn toward all those cakes that have been stacking up in my imagination.

So why the cake blog?  If you watch those doctor dramas on TV, you would think that I'm too busy having affairs with junior doctors and single-handedly saving entire airplane-fuls of trauma victims to have much time to bake.  Truth is, as much as I appreciate my job, it is really, really stressful.  Sometimes, when I come home from a 14-hour night shift after telling a pair of weeping parents that their child has cancer, or that their toddler didn't make it after falling into the swimming pool, I just need something beautiful to think about.  And that's what cakes are to me.  They look, smell, and taste beautiful.  They bring people together.  They remind me that there is a sweet side to life.

Because no matter how carefully we curate our Facebook posts and Instagram feeds to make our lives seem perfect and enviable, the fact is that life is not perfect, and we are not perfect.  But once in a while, I get to thank the good Lord for a perfect moment.  The moment of that first slice when the knife slides effortlessly through the cake, and I can feel that my cake is stable and well-baked.  That split-second when your mouth fills with the first bite of moist buttery sponge, silky swiss meringue buttercream, tangy lemon curd -- and your eyes are rolling back in your head because your brain just . . . can't . . . process which drool-inducing sensation to focus on first.  Those are the kinds of moments I'd like to share with you here, and I'd appreciate it if you would share your moments with me as well.  So whenever you need some respite from your day-to-day, and a reminder that there is a sweet side to life, please stop by and drop me a line.

Thank you for sharing the sweet life with me.

Blessings,

Michelle ^_^
